I know Paris is renowned for romance, but I fell in love with this Chinese meadow rue on a 2003 visit to Crug Farm in Wales. I’ve grown and seen many meadow rues, but nothing like this. T. delavayi var. decorum makes an airy 4-5′ tall clump, topped with panicles of large (by thalictrum standards) mauve-lavender flowers starting in early summer and continuing for months (weather permitting). Typical to slightly moist soils are best…a superb addition to the perennial border.
